Author Guidelines

The "Journal of Medical Bacteriology" is the official scientific publication of the Iranian Society for Medical Bacteriology.
It accepts original papers, review articles and case reports in the fields of bacteriology. All correspondences should be addressed to:
1. Submission: Papers submitted for publication should describe original work, not previously published elsewhere, totally or partly. Manuscripts must be submitted only in English and should be written according to sound grammar and proper terminology. Submission is only acceptable via Journal URL: http://jmb.tums.ac.ir
2. Manuscript must be accompanied by a covering letter to the Editor-in-Chief, including title and author(s) name and undertaking that it has not been published or submitted elsewhere.
3. The title page of the paper should only contain the title, name(s), degree(s) and addresses (Tel, Fax, and Email) of the author(s).
4. The manuscript should include: Title; No author(s) name; the Abstract; Introduction; Methods; Results; Discussion; Acknowledgement and References.
5. The abstract (no more than 250 words) in structured format as Background, Methods, Results and Conclusion followed by 3 to 5 Keywords must be presented.
6. Tables in limited numbers should be submitted with the captions placed above. Do not submit tables as photograph. Place explanatory matters in footnotes, not in the heading. The captions should be placed above.
7. Figures should be submitted on separate pages and numbered consecutively. High quality illustrations are appreciated and are highly considered in the review process. So, please illustrate your article with highquality photographs as these are often very informative (and free of charge to authors). Figure legends should be fully explanatory. Photos and figures should be of high quality (a minimum resolution of 300 dpi in the JPG format for photos and vector EPS [Encapsulated PostScript]) for figures containing both text and line drawings.
Figures should be prepared in a form that allows for reduction in size. Be sure to explain all abbreviations used. Whenever possible the information in a table should instead be presented in a figure. Illustrations should be in limited numbers, with high quality art work and mounted on separate pages. The captions should be placed below.
8. The same data should not be presented in tables, figures and text, simultaneously.
9. References in limited numbers and up to dated should be numbered consecutively as they occur in the text (number in parentheses). The references should ob¬serve the following style:
Article: Smith EJ, Visai L, Kerrigan SW, et al. The Sbi protein is a multifunctional immune evasion factor of Staphylococcus aureus. Infect Immun 2011; 79 (9): 3801-9.

10. Abbreviations and symbols use only standard abbreviations. Avoid using them in the title and abstract. The full term for which an abbreviation stands should precede its first use in the text unless it is a standard unit of meas¬urement.
11. Short communications (short papers) are 3 type-written pages articles. There are no headings; introduction, material and methods, results and discussion. Conclusion should be presented as a single paragraph. Maximum of 15 references are allowed.
Ethics: The relevant Ethics committee/ institution review boards of the respective institutions must approve the study. JMB has just tightened the requirements for dealing the ethical issues in the areas of Human and Animal Rights, Conflict of Interest (Col), and Informed Consent. All authors require to declare details of any Conflict of Interest. Thus, authors must declare any potential CoI, individually (by name), or declare that s/he does not have any CoI. Hence, the general collective statements; “The authors declare that there is no Conflict of Interest” is NOT sufficient.
Authors must also declare that they did conform to the Helsinki Declaration of 1975, as revised in 2000 (5) on Human and Animal Rights. Also, it must be stated that they followed out policy concerning Informed Consent.
12. Informed consent of the patients participating in the study should be undertaken.
13. The sole responsibility for the whole contents of the paper (views and statements) remains only to the author(s).
14. Conflicts of interest: Submitting a manuscript must be accompanied with a statement from the authors disclosing all financial and personnel rela-tionship that might bias their work, if any. Besides, they are requested to evident whether impending conflicts do or do not exist. A separate page should cover this proclamation and if there are further details, could be mentioned in covering letter. If an organization encompasses any financial interest in the outcome of the study, the authors are appealed to provide a declaration that have full access to all the data in the study and take complete responsibility for the integrity of the data and the accuracy of the data analysis.
The Conflict of Interest statemenst should list each author separately by name:
Mohammad fahim declares that he has no conflict of interest.
Melisa Gams has received research grants from Biotech Company A.
Ali Hakimi has received a speaker honorarium from Drug Company A and owns stock in Drug
Company B.
If multiple authors declare no conflict, this can be done in one sentence:
Mohammad fahim, Melisa Gams, and Ali Hakimi declare that they have no conflict of interest.
For studies with human subjects include the following:
Procedures performed according to the ethical standards of the responsible committee on human experimentation (institutional and national) and with the Helsinki Declaration of 1975, as revised in 2000. Informed consent was obtained from all patients for being included in the research.
If there is any doubt whether the research was performed conforming to the Helsinki Declaration, the authors must indicate the rationale for their approach, and demonstrate that the institutional review body clearly approved the doubtful aspects of the research. The following sentence should also be included If any identifying information about patients is included in the article:
Additional informed consent gained from all patients for which identifying information is included in this article.
For studies with animals include the following sentence:
All institutional and national guidelines for the care and use of laboratory animals were considered.
1. For articles that do not contain tests with human or animal subjects performed by any of the authors:
It is recommended to include the following sentence; to make sure that readers are aware that there are no ethical issues with human or animal subjects:
This article does not contain any studies with human or animal subjects performed by the any of the authors.
2. Page charges: There are no charges for publication in this Journal.
3. Copyright: Accepted manuscripts become the permanent property of the Journal and may not be reproduced, in whole or in part, without the written permission of the Editor.
4. Peer review process: Journal of Medical Bacteriology is a peer reviewed journal. All manuscripts will be acknowledged upon presenting to the journal office, provided that all stated requirements are met. The manuscript is set to two or more reviewers. The whole review process depends on receiving referees’ comments and revising the manuscripts based on these comments to the author. On receipt of the revised article from author and after final approving by referees, the letter of acceptance is issued to the author. Authors have the right to communicate to the editor if they do not wish their manuscript to be reviewed but a particular reviewer because of potential conflicts of interest. The author can also suggest the name of possible competent reviewers but it is up to the editor to accept it. No article is rejected unless negative comments are received from at least two reviewers.
5. To assist the speed of peer review process, you are requested to introduce four well known experts with their contact details, but the editor-in-Chief would be emancipated finally.
6. Disposal of material: Once published, all copies of the manuscript, correspondence and artwork will be held for 6 months before disposal.

Submitted manuscript should embrace the following criteria:

• Content should not be related to local issues but preferably with critical national or global items.
• Having innovative and creative outcome.
• Methods should preferably be advanced and reproducible.

The Editorial Board of the journal reserves the right to accept or reject the article in any stage and any time or delete a part of the text, tables, or figures, if necessary.
